I was hesitant to say he'd just lost a son, because he hadn't lost me, as such. He never really had me. We certainly weren't close. I couldn't remember a birthday party of mine he attended, ever.

 

And people like that have kids because...??

 

 

I was sure he thought of me as no more than an investment in his company. The cost of my education, the nannies and personal drivers, food and clothing, were simply a long-term investment for the betterment of iCon inc.

 

Oh, ok. That would be it. Great reason to have kids - Not!
